Andrew Boyens rides the bench
June 20, 2010

New Zealand tied Italy 1:1 in one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history, and our own Andrew Boyens was smack in the middle of the match. If you consider the Kiwi's bench as part of the match, which, for this purpose, we will.

The All-Whites went up on a 7th minute, probably offside, goal from Shane Smeltz. Dumbfounded Italy tied the game on a penalty in the 29th minute after some theatrics in the box. From that point on, it was up to New Zealand to hold on, and hold on they did.

For the second straight game, Boyens was seen celebrating with his teammates after the match.
